If you’re a regular over at the Sandtrap Bar & Grill (our restaurant in the Darien, Illinois area), you probably already know that we host karaoke nights every Wednesday. We welcome people of all experience levels to join in on the fun!
Karaoke can be a great way to blow off steam, come together, and enjoy an evening out. But—for those without much singing experience—it can also be a nerve-wracking experience! Today, we’re offering some tips that will help you break out of your comfort zone with confidence.
You don’t have to be Mariah Carey or Frank Sinatra to be a karaoke star. All it takes to be great at karaoke is a little bit of preparation and heart!
1. Listen to the song ahead of time
Play through some songs you’re interested in singing and listen for what will be the most challenging bits. Are there complex lyrics? Long sections of instrumental? Impossible-to-hit notes? Refreshing your memory may save you from bumbling through a section of the song you forgot was there.
2. Know your audience
Oftentimes the best song choices are ones that please the crowd. Take into consideration the age range of your group and their overall musical interests. If you’re nervous about singing solo, choosing a song that everyone is familiar with will encourage other supportive voices to join in.
3. Go with what you love
Karaoke isn’t just about impressing people with your vocal talent; it’s an opportunity to bring your personality and good energy to the table. If you have a song you absolutely love, which brings out the best in you—that’s the song you should sing, regardless of the rest.
